2. Social Impact Measurement Conference

KUSIF organized the 2nd Social Impact Measurmeent Conference! The main theme was selected as “Shared Measurement for Social Benefit”. On top of keynote speakers, 12 parallel sit-downs in 3 different rooms took place for sharing methodologies, knowledge and experience on social impact measurement. Most of the time, social impact actors are generally trying to solve complex social problems which don’t get resolved through one initiative. All these problems require systematic and cooperative solutions. That is why KUSIF wanted to “Shared Measurement” on the agenda of the social sector as well as share the results of the project “Improving the Social Impact of Women’s NGOs: A Shared Measurement Approach.”

In the first three sessions, which took place in parallel before noon, we tried to address different dimensions of the civil sphere under the umbrella of social impact measurement. In our first room, you listened to speeches highlighting the contribution of working with data to influencing/advocating public policies and their limitations. You discussed the experiences of two different non-governmental organizations in this field. In our second hall, we had speakers who would explain how social impact appears in different dimensions of fundraising processes, focusing on individual donations and the application processes for corporate and international funds, and who would share their experiences. When we come to our third room, we discuss funding institutions, which are important stakeholders in the civil sphere. In this hall, how the issue of common measurement can be handled from the perspective of funding institutions was conveyed with experiences from Turkey and the world.
We determined the afternoon part of our conference around three parallel themes, each consisting of 3 sessions. In our conference, you listened to speeches on the method theme, where we will talk about the methods and techniques we will use at different stages of social impact measurement, the gender theme, where social impact measurement discussions will be held with a focus on gender, and the experience sharing themes, where experiences from the field of social impact measurement will be shared.

Room 1: Methodologies and Techniques for Social Impact Measurement

Three consecutive sessions in Room 1 aimed to provide social impact actors who want to put social impact measurement on their agenda with tools to do this. For this reason, our speakers, who are experts in their fields, first ask: “What is the change you want to create?” They aimed to introduce you to change theory as an important tool that will enable you to create your change map while searching for the answer to the question and then offer you qualitative and quantitative methods to measure your change.

Room 2: Social Impact Measurement Focusing on Gender and Society

In Room 2, we invited you to think about social impact and common measurement approaches in the field of gender. In this theme, we will be able to share with you the outputs of our project called “Increasing the Social Impact of NGOs with a Female Target Group: A Common Measurement Approach” in more detail, as well as the measurement-oriented fieldwork experiences of our Koç University Gender and Women’s Studies Research and Application Center faculty members in the field of gender. We listened. Additionally, private sector representatives from Turkey brought global indicators for women’s employment to their speeches.

Room 3: Experiences From Social Impact Measurement Field

In Room 3, we aimed to offer you a rich experience-sharing area. Within the scope of this theme, our speakers with different approaches and experiences in social impact measurement will share their experiences regarding their working processes and express their views on the challenges and needs of the field. Within the scope of this theme, we aimed to bring the issue of social entrepreneurship to your agenda in the context of social impact measurement. In addition, social entrepreneurs who have worked to measure the social impact of their initiatives shared their experiences in the speeches in this hall. Finally, the experiences of independent evaluation experts working in social impact measurement allowed us to look at the issue from a different perspective.
