Dr. Volker Then (Center for Social Investment, Heidelberg University)
There is growing interest around social impact assessment and measurement methodologies and metrics across a range of stakeholders, from civil society organizations to public policymakers, to decision-makers in the private and public sectors, as well as among academicians. In this context, social investment represents a collection of tools and vehicles capable of driving the social impact sought after by the above actors:
- Generate a basis for evidence-based strategy development,
- Provide evidence of the success of their model approaches to both public policy and the general public,
- Mobilize efficiency gains in the management of their organizations, and finally
- Contribute to an improved and more effective resource allocation in the sector
Dr Volker Then, Director of the Center for Social Investment at the University of Heidelberg,Germany introduced the fundamentals of impact measurement: ''The introduction to any such approach starts from the mission and organizational model of the organization. The content serves to guide you in distinguishing among the multiplicity of approaches to impact measurement and to structure the decision of what could be helpful for your own work. The hope being that these frameworks may pave the way for your own methodologically sound and useful work in the future.''
By joining us in Istanbul, Dr. Volker Then continued the processes of knowledge transfer related to social investment that is particular interest for integral players involved in this space in Turkey.
